PSYCHOSOCIAL
RECOVERY COACHING

Psychosocial Recovery Coaching is an NDIS support designed specifically for people living with psychosocial disability arising from mental health challenges. Recovery Coaching focuses on building a person's capacity, resilience, independence, and confidence to live a meaningful life as defined by them.

At You Can Co., we take a person-centred, strengths-based approach. We work alongside participants to identify their goals, develop practical strategies, build skills, strengthen support networks, and increase confidence in managing everyday life. Recovery is different for everyone, and we recognise that progress is not always linear. Our role is to support participants to build on their strengths and move towards the life they want to live.

Recovery Coaching may assist with:

  • Understanding and navigating the NDIS.

  • Building independence and confidence.

  • Developing self-advocacy skills.

  • Identifying and working towards personal goals.

  • Strengthening natural and community supports.

  • Improving daily living skills.

  • Managing periods of change and transition.

  • Connecting with services and supports.

  • Developing strategies to support wellbeing and recovery.

  • Building routines and structure.

  • Increasing community participation and social connection.

  • Supporting participants to understand and manage the impact of their mental health on daily life.

How is a Psychosocial Recovery Coach Different from a Support Coordinator?

Although both roles can help participants navigate supports and services, they have different purposes.

Support Coordination

A Support Coordinator helps participants understand and implement their NDIS plan. Their focus is on connecting participants with services, coordinating supports, resolving service delivery issues, and helping participants get the most out of their funding.

Support Coordinators primarily work on service coordination and helping participants build the skills needed to manage their supports over time.

Psychosocial Recovery Coaching

A Psychosocial Recovery Coach works specifically with participants who have a psychosocial disability. Recovery Coaching focuses on the participant's recovery journey, wellbeing, capacity building, and long-term resilience.

Rather than simply connecting a participant to services, a Recovery Coach works alongside the participant to understand the impact of their mental health, develop recovery-focused goals, strengthen natural supports, build self-management skills, and improve overall quality of life.

Recovery Coaches often spend more time exploring the participant's strengths, hopes, challenges, coping strategies, relationships, and support networks. They take a holistic approach that considers all aspects of a person's life, not just their funded supports.

Our Approach

At You Can Co., we understand that recovery looks different for everyone. We focus on building genuine relationships, promoting choice and control, and supporting participants to define what a meaningful life looks like for them.

We recognise that setbacks can happen, and we work alongside participants at their pace. Our goal is not to "fix" people, but to support them to build confidence, develop skills, strengthen supports, and create sustainable pathways towards their personal goals and recovery.

Recovery is personal. We are here to walk alongside you.
